Eccomi qui a scrivere il primo articolo del mio blog! Sono qui solo da una settimana e in un'unica sera posso dire di aver visto TUTTO di Amsterdam: coffee shop, cinema gay, sexy shop, ragazze in vetrina, travestiti e una sorta di gay pride. La città è fantastica e ci si perde come niente, ci sono piste ciclabili persino nei vicoletti più improbabili e le strade sono molto più lunghe di quanto sembrino. Per questo ho deciso di prendere una bici; è costata € 50 e devo dire che sono piuttosto soddisfatta. Per quanto riguarda il tempo, aveva ragione chi mi ha avvertita prima di partire: è molto imprevedibile, nel giro di neanche 12 ore si può passare da una giornata da spiaggia agli acquazzoni autunnali. Per cui, sempre portarsi dietro un ombrello!
Una cosa che mi ha colpita è stata quando sono salita sul mio primo tram e mi sono trovata davanti un bel chioschetto fissato a terra dietro il quale un gentile signore mi ha fatto il biglietto. Insomma, viaggiare in nero è praticamente impossibile! Motivo in più per avere una bici ;) Altra cosa che mi disorienta un po', nella stessa zona si possono avere strade con lo stesso nome ma allo stesso tempo diverse: kattenburgergracht, kattenburgerplein, kattenburgerstraat, kattenburgerbrug e magari, perché no, anche kattenburgerkade. Gracht significa canale, plein piazza, straat via, brug ponte e kade banchina. Insomma, come non confondere le idee! Soprattutto la differenza fra gracht e straat mi disorienta, a volte dove mi aspetto un gracht trovo una straat... Ma per questa settimana è abbastanza, ci aggiorniamo alla prossima! :)
Here I am, writing the very first article on my blog! I've only been here for a week and in just one night I can say that I've seen EVERYTHING of Amsterdam: coffee shops, gay cinemas, sex shops, window girls, transvestites and a sort of gay pride. The city is awesome and you can get lost very easily, there are bike paths even in the most unexpected alleys and the streets are longer than it may seem. That's why I decided to get a bike; it cost € 50 and I have to admit that I'm quite satisfied about it. Talking about the weather, those who warned me before I left were right: it's very unpredictable, in less than 12 hours it can change from a warm and sunny day to an autumnal rain shower. So, always take your umbrella with you!
Something that struck me was the small stall anchored to the ground on my very first tram behind which a friendly gentleman sold me a ticket. Well then, it is nearly impossible to ride a tram without buying a ticket! One more reason to get a bike ;) Another thing that confuses me a little: in the same area you can find roads with the same name but very different at the same time: kattenburgergracht, kattenburgerplein, kattenburgerstraat, kattenburgerbrug and maybe, why not, also kattenburgerkade. Gracht means canal, plein means square, straat means street, brug means bridge and kade means quay, dock. In other words, a nice way not to blow up your mind! It is mostly the difference between gracht and straat which confuses me, sometimes when I expect a gracht, I find a straat... But I think that's enough for this week, I'll tell you later 'bout the next! :)
